USEUMARQUISIMETO USEUMThe new hospital was officially inaugurated the 8th of may 1918. The ceremony turns into an event where the city expresses the perception of the work as a common feat, a collective attainment guided by Doctor Pineda. During his management between 1880 and 1931, the Hospital became a center for research, education and forefront medical practice.
In 1893, Pineda performs there the first craniotomy which takes place in Venezuela. In its wards and operating rooms, Pineda himself and doctor Jose de Jesus Freites lecture classes to the first students of the "Colegio Federal de Primera Categoria" in the career of Medical Sciences. Pineda organizes the management and services structure of the Hospital based on two departments: women and men. The first one consists of four halls with forty eight beds, twenty of them for maternity, the second one is integrated by four halls and sixty seven beds.
